The Gateway Technical College Education Association (GTEA) strategically plans and implements initiatives to improve educational conditions for its members and Gateway's students.
GTEA works toward its vision to provide the best teaching and learning conditions for educators and their students. Educators in GTEA include academic advisors, counselors, instructors, librarians, and more. We are proud that over 95 percent of faculty voting in recertification elections vote to have GTEA represent them in annual elections.
GTEA works to advocate for our educators; to inform them, the board, and administration about educators' concerns; and to recognize educators for their contributions to their students, their community, and their profession.
Advocacy
GTEA's advocacy represents members in bargaining with the administration to secure wages, benefits, and working conditions. All we do supports learning at Gateway Technical College.
Information
GTEA regularly communicates information with its members, the Gateway administration, and the Gateway board. Meetings, social media, and websites provide updates to members. Members also contact GTEA with concerns about issues or work at the college. GTEA also provides regular updates to the administration and board during meetings. Communication builds a better workplace.
Recognition
In any workplace, employees can feel taken for granted. GTEA recognizes its members work hard. It keeps the board and administration updated on the contributions of its members to our college community. It has also developed the Fresh AIR award to recognize members' contributions to our community, to scholarship in their fields, and to innovations in educating students.
No matter whether we are advocating for members, informing our members or administration about concerns, or recognizing our members, GTEA and its members act in accordance with their values:
Student Success
We value the opportunity for students to succeed in the classroom and in their futures. Our members' teaching conditions are students' learning conditions.
Sensible Education Conditions
We value working conditions that provide safety, security, and balance. Our members work to live.
Shared Governance
We value collaboration between educators, staff, and administration. Our members contribute important insights to academic, financial, strategic, and tactical decisions.
Successful Professionals
We value every educator's experience, knowledge, and skill. These traits come from professional development opportunities and grow through our educators' careers with the right development opportunities.
Solidarity with Educators
We value the mutual support offered by our members and other organizations that support education and working people.
